Susan Little
I love the act of creating a painting with bright rich joyful colours. I am a graduate of OCADU, Ontario College of Art and Design University in Toronto 4 year program. My previous careers include magazine art direction, graphic design, and illustration. I enjoy applying the powerful dynamics of graphic design and illustration techniques into my fine art paintings. I am especially attracted to the vivid colours and the intensity of what I can achieve when using acrylic paints. I like the bounce of the stretched canvas and the sounds that the first few brush strokes make across it. My intention is to bring happiness and interest to the viewer. My paintings are thrilling for me to create full of juicy and rich colours with lots of details and embellishments. My latest series ‘How My Garden Grows’ delves into my attraction and love affair with flowers. My paintings are partially based on botanical facts but with a huge scoop of imagination tossed in. It’s become a dream to work with acrylics, the fun of laying down the many brush strokes of their deep vivid colours. I’m also intrigued with all the special effects I can achieve from impasto to washes. My favourite mediums to work with are acrylics and watercolours, but I also like to create collages and paintings with mixed media adding inks, crayons, markers and pastels too. I also teach acrylic and watercolour workshops where I love to share what I have learned in over my 45 years in the fine arts.
