I focus my abilities primarily with Encaustic, Oils with Cold Wax Medium and Collage. My style has been referred to as “abstracted realism”. When I am creating a piece, there is a delicate balancing act; a slow dance of controlling the medium; and surrendering to it. I find the whole process very seductive, therapeutic and healing.
My work with CWM, encaustic and alcohol ink allows me to evoke dreamlike, ethereal images that resonate harmony and introspection. Collaged pieces offer hidden messages that are puzzled together with dexterity and intricacy, using items such as handmade papers, tea bags, cheese cloth, vintage books, fibers and found objects, to seamlessly create a work of art that flows and speaks as a whole. An integral part of my work stems from intuitive journaling onto the substrate, as a way of rooting me into the piece. My art is often layered. I invite the viewer to look beyond the layers; to explore what is hidden or what is revealed in the painting and in themselves. Every art work I create is another layer of me exposed. |
