Promoting the Studio Tours

Picture
Every participating tour location will
have a RED LAWN sign with map location
displayed prominently at the end of the driveway.

Look for welcome feather flags, open house signs, flyer display boxes, balloons and directional arrows.

Ever wonder how to attract new and returning visitors to
your studio?

Online Media

Facebook and Twitter goes a long way to get the word out; keep “liking”, “sharing”, tweet and retweet, and comment to keep the posts at the top of the newsfeed.

Do you want to help your local artists and business draw in the tourists and art consumers?

Talk it Up

Mention it to friends, clients/patrons, students, family, neighbours, your doctor, dentist, hairdresser/barber, butcher and baker — just spread the word far and wide!

Always Be Ready

Keep some brochures in your car and purse/bag. You never know when or where you will have an opportunity to leave some whether or not you are within the Niagara Region or beyond.

Suggestions for Tour Success

2-3 months before the tour:
  • distribute the "first wave" of  brochures to key locations (distribution location suggestions below)
  • update your website and social media outposts (Facebook, Twitter etc.)
  • review your SNA web profile, send updates to [email protected]
  • make more art

1-2 months before the tour:
  • place the red lawn sign out in front of your studio (with/without the date/location topper, or perhaps create an "open house coming soon" sign with the dates)
  • check brochure distribution locations to replenish the stock (or move to different location if no interest/traffic)
  • send brochure location updates to [email protected] so the website can be updated
  • make art

2 weeks-1 month before the tour:
  • place the date/location topper on the lawn sign
  • last wave of brochure distribution
  • send updates to [email protected]
  • finish making your art
  • clean your studio

Day of the tour(s):
  • open a wee bit early, at least on time (10am) AND do not close early, but stay open as late as there is traffic (5pm+)
  • place balloons on lawn sign
  • place directional signs if your location is out of the way (e.g. street corners  – avoid city property so they are not removed)
  • inform/remind your neighbours/local businesses to help direct traffic (and so they know what's going on!)
  • brew the coffee, boil the kettle, put the fruit punch on ice and layout the baked goods – the visitors are coming!
