Milena is a Serbian-born watercolor painter living in the village of Ridgeway, Canada. Following her formal undergraduate and graduate education in psychology, Japanese language and culture, and fashion design in Canada and Japan, Milena sought artistic training through workshops and mentorships under numerous Japanese and Western artists. She holds a certificate of year-long study under Thomas Schaller, has completed extended mentorships under Mary Whyte and Carol Carter, and is constantly learning both from others and herself. In her expressive paintings, she aims to give form to the unpredictable and fleeting nature of life’s smallest blessings and largest tumults by employing the most chaotic aspects of the medium of watercolor.
Milena’s work has been shown in the international juried Open Water Exhibition of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolor 2022, Women in Watercolor group show 2024, and is on ongoing display at the Fort Erie Art Council Gallery since 2023. Milena’s work has also been published in the International Watercolor Society Magazine in 2024 and her illustrated works are set to be published in an upcoming role-playing game by a Dungeons and Dragons co-creator. Milena’s work been awarded a first-place prize in the online juried Let’s Rock Watercolor Festival in 2024 and twice awarded the Outstanding Watercolor Award in the international online juried BoldBrush Painting Competition (June and July 2023). Finally, Milena is a member of the Fort Erie Arts Council and an associate member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolor, Women in Watercolor, American Watercolor Society, and the Canadian arm of the International Watercolor Society. |
