Visit “A Touch of Clay” at the Port Colborne Makers’ Market in the Historic Guild Hall for a wide selection of functional stoneware pottery, beautifully designed yet durable enough for everyday use. Some of the pieces available include mugs, bowls, goblets and serving dishes. Usually each piece is first envisioned in Mary’s mind before becoming reality. Sometimes it just evolves as she begins to work. The majority is thrown using a potter’s wheel, but there are unique hand built pieces as well. Mary has not always been a potter. Those hands of hers were very busy in her career as an operation room nurse. When she retired in 2000, she needed something to keep both hands and mind occupied. A pottery class in St. Catharines was the solution and Mary immediately fell in love with her new pursuit. After her first lesson, she bought a throwing wheel and has never looked back.
